Fluid Levels

You might not always think about all of the fluids that are required to keep your vehicle running. Some of the fluid levels that you’ll need to keep track of include fuel, oil, radiator fluid, and more. When changing or topping off fluid levels, make sure you check the manufacturer’s recommendations to determine how often you should do so. While you’re at it, check to see if the filters need to be changed as well.

Drive Belt/Chain Service

Did you know that the drive belt/chain plays a significant role in a well-functioning engine? You should make a point to regularly inspect these for signs of damage or wear. When you’re performing this task, you should also check that the tension is correct. The chain should not be too tight or too loose.

The radiator needs love, too. Believe it or not, the radiator cap does not exist solely to keep the coolant in your engine. This component is also responsible for drawing coolant into the engine. This means that a loose seal can easily diminish performance and lead to overheating. Take the time to check the cap and replace or repair it as needed.

Coolant will prevent your engine from overheating during those intense rides. While the fluid may not need to be replaced, it will eventually need to be topped off. If the radiator is leaking and producing pools of fluid on your vehicle, be sure to bring it in for service as soon as possible.

As you’re probably aware, your vehicle’s brakes play an important role in how efficiently it runs. Even if you have never experienced a scary moment of not being able to stop, there could be problems slowly building. When inspecting the brake system, you should check the pads for thickness, the routing of your lines, and the condition as well as the levels of your brake fluid. Remember that some issues can be easily fixed at home, but with such a delicate system, you may want to contact our powersports service department for assistance.

It’s no secret that a good set of tires will keep your powersports vehicle on the trail longer, so you’ll want to regularly check and adjust the tire pressure as necessary. If you neglect the tire pressure for too long, you could get stuck with a flat or worse. The good news is that you can pick up a tire pressure gauge for cheap. Always check your tires and fill them up with air if needed before you head out for a ride.
